Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to audition for the Phantom Regiment?
- Audition Materials Packet – $75
- One-Day or Video Audition – $100
- TOTAL = $175 (plus any travel expenses you may incur)
If you are invited to a callback camp, or if you are offered a membership agreement, you will be required to pay an additional $200 camp fee for the first weekend-long camp you attend. Any remaining camps you attend will be free of charge.
Where are the 2024 in-person auditions taking place?
We are hosting a series of one-day, in-person auditions across the country throughout October and November. No matter where you attend, you will receive feedback from our expert staff of instructors. In-person, one-day audition sites are planned for the following areas:
- October 29 – Southern California (Fountain Valley HS)
- October 29 – Tulsa, OK (Owasso HS)
- November 5 – Dallas. TX (Plano Senior HS)
- November 5 – Houston, TX (Clear Brook HS)
- November 12 – Indianapolis, IN (Avon HS)
- November 12 – Atlanta, GA (Central HS – Carrollton, GA)
- November 19 – Rockford, IL (Guilford HS)
Can I audition by video?
Yes, we will accept video auditions throughout the winter and spring until all performer positions are filled. After you receive feedback from our staff, you may be asked to attend a weekend-long camp before membership is confirmed. If you are offered a membership agreement, you will be required to attend all rehearsal camps for your section.
To audition by video, you will need to create an account in UltraCamp, purchase the audition packet material, and register for the video audition in order to submit your audition.
If I am offered a membership agreement, what other rehearsals will I need to attend?
Weekend-long callback and rehearsal camps will be held in the Rockford area and are scheduled for the following dates:
- December 8-10
- January 12-14
- February TBD
- April 26-28 (all sections)
Weekend-long camps will be in the Rockford area and flights should be booked to Chicago O’Hare or Rockford airports. The corps will be unable to provide transportation from Chicago Midway Airport.
Do members from Phantom Regiment 2023 receive automatic entry for 2024?
All 2023 members of Phantom Regiment in good standing will bypass the initial audition round and proceed straight to the “callback” portion. No former member is guaranteed a spot for the 2024 season, and is expected to earn a contract by continuing to grow to the highest level of achievement. Any eligible 2023 returning member will receive a link to register their intention to participate in callbacks.
How many spots are available for 2024?
All spots are open for the 2024 season, including conductors. Phantom Regiment plans to have 165 performing members on the field in 2024.
How much does it cost to participate in The Phantom Regiment?
The costs to operate a world-class drum corps such as the Phantom Regiment are significant. Tuition and fees paid by members only account for a fraction of the costs associated with operating winter camps and the summer tour. We are still working through the details for 2024 tuition and will release this information once it’s available.

- Your 1st weekend-long camp – $200 (this is a one-time fee for the first camp you attend)
- Any remaining rehearsal camps you attend will be free of charge
- Room and board at camps is included
- Tuition – TBD
Please also consider your personal travel expenses to/from your audition site, rehearsal camps, and spring training/tour; as well as personal expenses such as mouthpieces, member jackets, tour spending money, etc.
What is the age requirement to participate in the 2024 Phantom Regiment?
Anyone between the ages of 14 to 21 may audition for the Phantom Regiment. DCI limits the age of participants to 21 years of age and younger. A participant who is 22 years before June 1 would be unable to compete. IF you turn 22 AFTER June 1st, you are eligible to participate in the 2024 season.
If I registered but no longer wish to participate, can I get a refund?
Packet, audition, and camp fees are not refundable. These fees are used to produce the high-quality materials, instruction, housing, and food we provide. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for positions unless they believe they meet every one of the qualifications outlined in a role description. We are most interested in finding the best candidates for membership in our drum corps, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. We would encourage you to apply to audition, even if you don’t believe you meet all of the qualifications described in the application.
