Treasure Valley Financial Planning is a financial planning firm that helps local pre-retirees design and implement customized plans to retire confidently, and current retirees stay confidently retired. Advisor Associate Overview

Associate Advisors provide technical, financial planning, and investment management work, usually with other professional planners in the firm, and are under the supervision of a Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor. The goal is to grow the Associate Advisor to a Lead Advisor and beyond.

Associate Advisors are focused 100% on serving, supporting, and managing our clients collaboratively with more experienced advisors. They help in client meetings and aid in navigating clients through the entire financial planning experience and decision-making process. This includes taking notes, preparing, and discussing client financial plans appropriate for client situations. They will aid in coordinating the planning process with the client and overseeing the tasks.

Most of the AFA’s time is spent in meetings with a Lead Advisor or Senior Advisor and then delegating and completing tasks to other team members, including client service associates. This position can be entry-level for college graduates with a degree in financial planning who have passed an exam for a designation or those earning work experience toward a designation.

They can advise clients and make recommendations (with the supervision of higher-level advisors) on client financial plans and investments. They have obtained the proper licensing to work directly with clients and often attend client meetings with other professional advisors or work with smaller client accounts independently.

Typicalresponsibilitiesinclude:

  • Focused support and second chair duties in client meetings with an ability to add value to the conversation while gathering data and action items for follow-up.
  • Coordinates with Senior and Lead Advisors to develop and prepare clients’ financial plans, develop recommendations and solutions in the client’s best interest, and ensure those plans are executed.
  • Communicating with clients by understanding their needs, objectives, goals, and concerns and translating these into an actionable and disciplined plan.
  • Coordinating with the client’s other advisors (attorney, CPA, etc.) and other external sources to carry out client service goals.
  • Provide client follow-up and engagement with clients, pre- and post-meeting, as well as other needs and communications as they arise.
  • Preparing and making recommendations for client financial plans, including entering data and running reports using financial planning software.
  • Preparing and making recommendations on client investments, including creating investment policy statements and portfolio allocation reports.
  • Acting as a backup for Lead Advisors on advisory questions from clients.
  • Assist Lead Advisors with client communications, such as writing newsletters and economic reports.
  • Delegating non-advisory follow-up work to client service help.

TypicalExperience and EducationRequirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree, CFP® program graduate, or ability to sit for the CFP® exam.
  • Desire to work directly with clients.
  • Ability to give or learn to give recommendations to clients.
  • Consultative sales ability to assist people with executing their action items.
  • Strong self-leadership skills (i.e., emotional and mental health.)
  • Strong technology capabilities (i.e., learning to use the software easily.)
  • Experience working with various custodial platforms (Schwab, TDA.)

Specificskills and knowledge:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, empathy and listening)
  • Financial planning analysis and modeling.
  • Personal integrity and discretion with confidential information.
  • Knowledge of Investment Advisory Regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various Fintech solutions.
  • Ability to deal with stress in an ever-changing investment market.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with a knack for prioritization and problem anticipation.
